3/25/12 UPDATE

Congratulations to the JA Winter Guard for continuing their undefeated season within their class in MIA with a first place finish at the Petal HS show on Saturday with a score of 77.10, almost 3 points higher than second place Clinton HS.

The JA Guard's season will culminate at the Mississippi Indoor Association Championships on Saturday, March 31, at the Mississippi Coliseum. 

The championships will feature performances by 18 percussion groups and 39 guard units from public and private schools around the state. Please try to come to the Coliseum to support the JA Guard! Advance tickets are available through Ticketmaster at THIS LINK, or at the Coliseum box office the day of the competition.

The JA Band had a fine performance at the MMEA conference on Friday. The band received many compliments from the music educators from around the state who attended the session.

THURSDAY, 3/29 - Central MS Concert Festival - Ridgeland HS 

6:00 pm - Meet outside the auditorium at Ridgeland dressed in concert black, with instruments

7:00 - PERFORMANCE - Parents invited to attend

7:30 - Students dismissed

CONCERT BAND

Tuesday evening full band rehearsals start THIS WEEK, in preparation for the Central Mississippi and MAIS Concert Band Festivals. These evening rehearsals are very important for the band's preparation. Please mark your calendars to ensure your student will be at these three rehearsals.

Here is the schedule for this week:

TUESDAY - FULL BAND REHEARSAL in the PAC - 6:30 - 8:00

WEDNESDAY - Clarinet Sectional - 3:00 - 3:45

FRIDAY - The JA Concert Band has been invited to perform at the Mississippi Music Educators Association Conference, a gathering of music teachers from public and private schools around the state.

Schedule for FRIDAY:
- Students bring concert black attire to the band hall before school
- END OF THIRD PERIOD - Students dismissed from class, report to band hall to change
- 11:15 - Depart JA via school bus - fast food lunch stop (bring $$)

- 1:00 - Concert Band performance in the Winston Room at the Jackson Marriott downtown - Parents welcome

- 2:30 (approximate) - Arrive back at JA

There will also be evening rehearsals for the full band on March 27 and April 3 - 6:30 - 8:00.

CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI CONCERT FESTIVAL

The Concert Band will again perform at the Central MS Concert Festival at Ridgeland HS on Thursday, March 29, in the afternoon or evening. Further details are TBA.

3/4/12 UPDATE

CONCERT & JAZZ BAND

Here is the schedule for the coming weeks:

MONDAY - Piano Sectional - 3:00 - 3:45

TUESDAY - Concert Jazz Band (all high school band members) at FEATURES PAGEANT - no Sectional

6:15 - Report to the PAC pit, ready to warmup. Attire is all black. Students will be dismissed by about 8:15.

WEDNESDAY - Clarinet Sectional - 3:00 - 3:45

THURSDAY - NO SCHOOL - Percussion Sectional 10:00 - 1:00, lunch provided

FRIDAY - NO SCHOOL

AFTER SPRING BREAK - NO Sectionals except clarinets on Wednesdays. 

There will be evening rehearsals for the full band on TUESDAYS, March 20, March 27, and April 3 - 6:30 - 8:00 in the PAC.

These evening rehearsals are very important for the band's preparation for the MAIS Concert Band Festival on April 5. Please mark your calendars to ensure your student will be at these three rehearsals.

FRIDAY, March 23 - The JA Concert Band has been invited to perform at the Mississippi Music Educators Association Conference. Dr. David Akombo, a Professor of Music Education at JSU, has asked the band to perform a piece for his presentation at the conference, entitled A Multicultural Music Appreciation in a Familiar Key. 

The band members will depart from school at 11:00, have lunch enroute, and perform at 1:00 in the Winston Room at the Jackson Marriott. Parents are invited to attend.

CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI CONCERT FESTIVAL

The Concert Band will again perform at the Central MS Concert Festival at Ridgeland HS on Thursday, March 29, in the afternoon. Further details are TBA.

NORTHWEST RANKIN HS JAZZ CLINIC

JA Band students are invited to attend the Northwest Rankin Jazz Clinic April 12-14. The clinic will start after school on April 12, meet all day Friday, April 13, and finish with a rehearsal and concert on Saturday morning, April 14. Cost is $25 per student.

If your student would like to attend this clinic, I need to know by the end of class on Monday, March 6.
