1/29/12 UPDATE

Congratulations to the JA Winter Guard for their fine performances at the Pearl High School Field Day. The guard finished FIRST in their class (outscoring the second place squad from Clinton HS by almost 7 points) and had the second-highest score of the day, 0.5 behind Madison Central.

Performing in front of a capacity crowd at the Pearl HS gym, the JA squad outscored groups from Pearl, Petal, Hillcrest, Brandon, Florence, Northwest Rankin, Kosciusko, Hinds CC, MSU, and others. It is also worth noting that four of the units who performed Saturday were directed by JA alumni.

The guard will continue to work hard to prepare for the rest of their season. Their next show will be February 18 at Brandon HS.

CONCERT BAND

The JA Concert Band has been invited to perform at the Mississippi Music Educators Association Conference. The schedule is yet to be finalized, but it will be during the school day either March 22 or 23 at the Jackson Marriott. We will announce further details as they become available.

CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI CONCERT FESTIVAL

The Concert Band will again perform at the Central MS Concert Festival at Ridgeland HS on Thursday, March 29, in the afternoon. Further details are TBA.

NORTHWEST RANKIN HS JAZZ CLINIC

JA Band students are invited to attend the Northwest Rankin Jazz Clinic April 12-14. The clinic will start after school on April 12, meet all day Friday, April 13, and finish with a rehearsal and concert on Saturday morning, April 14. Cost is $25 per student.

The JA Winter Guard will have its first performance this Saturday, January 28, at the MIA Field Day at Pearl HS. The itinerary for Saturday:

8:30 - 10:30 - Rehearsal in HS gym

10:30 - Load truck, students dismissed

1:30 - Those members who need a ride meet at JA - dressed in ALL BLACK

1:45 - All meet at Pearl HS - dressed in ALL BLACK

Warmup & perform show for judges (no spectators) at 3:00

Students dismissed after performance, they may stay to watch performances or leave and return

8:00 pm - Meet in lobby at Pearl HS in dresses, hair and makeup done

8:30 - Warmup

9:20 - Performance

10:15 - Retreat

MAIS CONCERT BAND CLINIC

The following students have registered for the MAIS Concert Band Clinic January 12-14

These students will be excused from classes Thursday and Friday. They should discuss any work they will miss with their teachers early this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Carter will be with the students throughout the clinic, at the Hinds Community College campus and Eagle Ridge Conference Center.

All students should report to the band hall on Thursday morning at the start of school with everything they need for the weekend. We will provide transportation to the clinic.

All band families and friends are invited to the final concert of the clinic, at 2:00 Saturday in Cain-Cochran Hall on the Hinds campus.

JACKSON ACADEMY WINTER GUARD

The JA Winter Guard continues to work hard to learn and improve their show, looking forward to their first performance at the MIA Field Day at Pearl HS on January 28.
