1/30/11 UPDATE

 

 
Congratulations to the members of the Jackson Independent Winter Guard for finishing in first place in the Independent A Division at the MIA Field Show at Pearl HS on Saturday. Thank you to mat crew members Will Tribble, Christian Burford, and Gipson Clark for helping at Pearl.

The winter guard had a busy weekend, with a rehearsal and two performances on Saturday, and a rehearsal on Sunday afternoon. Best of luck to them at their next competition, February 19 at Pearl HS.

The JA Concert Band has been invited to perform at the Central Mississippi Concert Band Festival at Ridgeland HS on March 24.

Details are still being finalized, but the band's performance will most likely be during the latter part of the school day. This will be a good opportunity for the band to gain playing experience and receive constructive inputs from qualified adjudicators before the MAIS Concert Band Festival here at JA on April 8. More details will be announced when they become available.

We will continue the usual sectional rehearsal schedule this week:

MONDAY - Trombones
TUESDAY - Clarinets & Percussion
WEDNESDAY - Trumpets
THURSDAY - Flutes
FRIDAY - Saxes

BAND BOOSTER FUNDRAISER

All sectionals are 3:00 - 3:45 in the band hall. These rehearsals are an important element of a successful concert season, allowing for more individualized instruction than is possible during the full group class period. Please ensure your student is present for his or her sectional each week, so that we can best prepare for the MAIS Concert Band Festival here at JA on April 8.

FEATURES PAGEANT

Please mark your calendars for the JA Features Pageant at 7:00 on February 28. The JA Jazz Band will perform at the event. Further details will be announced when available.  

The JI members continue to prepare for their season, which will begin with Field Day at Pearl HS on January 29, with practices both Sunday and Monday. A few photos:

 

 

 

1/9/11 UPDATE

Congratulations to the 10 JA Band members who participated in the MAIS CONCERT BAND CLINIC this week: Annie Campbell, Will Tribble, Jace Stanley, Grady Fisher, Caroline Burford, Aaron Dallaire, Tyler McClellan, Christian Burford, Hannah McCowan and Chase Oswalt.  

The two clinic bands were directed by Dr. Craig Young, the Director of Bands and Head of the Instrumental Music Department at Mississippi College, and Jennifer Sills, Assistant Band Director at Stone High School.

Out of 85 students from independent school band programs around the state, 8 of our students earned spots in the first band, with Annie Campbell and Aaron Dallaire earning first chair positions. Congratulations to all the students for representing JA well. The clinic concluded Saturday with fine performances by both bands at the final concert.

SECTIONAL REHEARSALS

Sectional rehearsals for concert season will begin this week. All rehearsals will be from 3:00 - 3:45 in the band hall, and will continue until the Concert Band Festival in April, with the following schedule:

Monday - Trombones
Tuesday - Clarinets & Percussion
Wednesday - Trumpets
Thursday - Flutes
Friday - Saxes

Any exceptions to the schedule will be announced in the weekly blog update.

JACKSON INDEPENDENT WINTER GUARD

The Winter Guard will rehearse this week on Tuesday, January 11, from 3:30 - 7:00 in the gym. The guard's first competitive event will be January 29, Field Day at Pearl HS.

 

1/2/11 UPDATE

Over 90 students from independent schools around the state will be participating in the MAIS Concert Band Clinic January 6-8 at the Regency Hotel. The following JA Band members are registered for the clinic:

The Clinic begins with registration and auditions Thursday afternoon beginning at 1:00. Attendees will be excused from school Thursday afternoon and all day Friday.

All students will be staying at the Regency Hotel, where all clinic activities will be held. Participating students will receive a detailed itinerary and other information this week.

Families and friends are invited to the final concert on Saturday, January 8, at 2:00 pm in the Regency Hotel Ballroom. 

JACKSON INDEPENDENT WINTER GUARD

The members of the Jackson Independent Winter Guard finished their holiday break with a four-hour rehearsal today. Their first competition will be the Field Day event at Pearl HS on January 29. They will be competing at several Mississippi Indoor Association events throughout the season, including Championships on April 2 at Ridgeland HS. They will also travel to Birmingham, AL, February 25-27 to compete at the Hoover HS Southeastern Color Guard Circuit event.
