3/21/10 UPDATE



Congratulations to the Jackson Independent Winterguard for a successful trip to the Pace, FL competition this weekend. The guard placed second in Independent A at the Gulf Coast Color Guard Circuit event.

CONCERT BAND SCHEDULE UPDATE

Here is the concert band schedule beginning TOMORROW, as the band prepares for the state festival on April 1:

Monday, 3/22 - Band Class 2:00 - 3:00, Woodwind Sectional 3:00 - 4:00 (Flute private lessons will be at their usual times, in the PAC during sectional)
Tuesday, 3/23 - Band Class 2:00 - 3:00, Full Band Rehearsal 7:00 - 8:30
Wednesday, 3/24 - Band Class 2:00 - 3:00, Percussion and Brass Sectional 3:00 - 4:00
Thursday, 3/25 - Band Class 2:00 - 3:00
Friday, 3/26 - Band Class 2:00 - 3:00

Monday, 3/29 - Band Class 2:00 - 3:00, Woodwind Sectional 3:00 - 4:00
Tuesday, 3/30 - Band Class 2:00 - 3:00, Full Band Rehearsal 7:00 - 8:30
Wednesday, 3/31 - Band Class 2:00 - 3:00, Percussion and Brass Sectional 3:00 - 4:00
Thursday, 4/1 - MAIS Concert Band Festival, JA PAC, 2:00 Performance Time

All rehearsals and sectionals during these two weeks will be on the stage in the Performing Arts Center.

Please note that class each day will be from 2:00 - 3:00 (not 2:45), and that sectional rehearsals have been consolidated.

Also, although there are no other classes on campus on Wednesday, 3/24 due to ABC testing, we WILL have band class and the sectional rehearsal that day.

As we explained to the students in class before spring break, these are the two most important weeks of the concert band season. Please ensure your student is at every rehearsal and applicable sectional.

The MAIS State Concert Band Festival will be at the Jackson Academy Performing Arts Center on Thursday, April 1. Here is the performance schedule for the event:

9:00 - Jackson Prep
9:30 - Canton Academy
10:00 - Starkville Academy
10:30 - Hillcrest Christian School
11:00 - Copiah Academy

12:00 - Pillow Academy
12:30 - Heritage Academy
1:00 - Oak Hill Academy
1:30 - Washington School
2:00 - Jackson Academy

This event is free and open to the public. Please come to support our students.

MISSISSIPPI ALL-STATE CONCERT BAND

Congratulations to JA Band seniors Will Commarato, Jonathan Sandlin, & John Humphreys for their selection as members of the All-State Concert Band. This ensemble is comprised of the top musicians from each section of the 2010 Lions Band, from both public and private schools around the state. With three members, JA is tied for third among all the high schools in the state in representation in the band.

Will, Jonathan, & John will be attending a clinic and performing at the final concert on Saturday, March 27, at 11:00 am in the William Dodson Performing Arts Center on the campus of Pearl High School. The concert is free and open to the public.


Saturday, April 10 - The JA Jazz Band will perform at the Township Jazz Festival at the Township at Colony Park in Ridgeland. The JA band will play from 12:00 - 1:00. Click on the logo above for more information about this event, spearheaded by prominent local musician Raphael Semmes. The Festival has announced that the headliner this year will be Mose Allison, known as the "William Faulkner of Jazz". Please visit Mose's official website for more infomation about this influential musician.
