JA BAND FUNDRAISER MAY 6 - GYROS & JAZZ

The JA Band members and some special guests -- including Upper School Dean Steve McCartney on trombone, President Elect Cliff Kling on sax, and others -- have been preparing for the Gyros & Jazz event on May 6.

For $25 per person, each guest will receive a delicious dinner entree at Mediterranean Fish & Grill and two hours of musical entertainment. In addition to the JA Jazz Band and guest musicians from campus, some of Jackson's finest musicians will drop in throughout the evening.

Spread the word to family members, friends, coworkers, church families, neighbors, and anyone else who would enjoy good food, good music, and a chance to support these hard-working students.

Contact Vicki Tirman for tickets at tirman4@bellsouth.net.

JA BAND BANQUET

The annual JA Band Banquet will be Thursday, May 8, at the Hilton Jackson.

All JA Band members, grades 6-12, will be recognized for their hard work this year. There will also be pre-dinner entertainment provided by a jazz trio led by renowned local musician Raphael Semmes, and a retrospective slide show.

Thanks to the generosity of the JA Band Boosters, student tickets are complimentary. Tickets for family members are $25 per person. All attendees will need a ticket.

For tickets and to RSVP for your family, please contact Charlette Oswalt at charlette.oswalt@millsaps.edu or text 601-331-5450.

CONCERT BAND & WINTER GUARD

Congratulations to the JA Band for an outstanding performance at the MAIS Concert Band Festival at Jackson Prep on Friday afternoon.

The band received straight Superior ratings from all judges, and many positive comments as well. David Willson, Director of Bands at Ole Miss, said the band was mature, musical, and well taught. He also said it was "time to spread the word about the excellence of this program."

Thank you to the JA Administration members who came to the concert to support the band: Peter Jernberg, Cliff Kling, David Sykes, and Steve McCartney. Mr. McCartney also came to Holmes CC Saturday night for the MIA Championships for Winter Guard.

The JA Winter Guard members came back on Saturday to rehearse and then travel to Holmes Community College for MIA Championships, where they hoped to continue their undefeated streak for the season. They did that in fine style, earning a Class Championship and the highest score (88.77) of any group for the entire season.

We are extremely proud of these dedicated, intelligent, focused students. They are accomplishing exceptional things and continue to represent Jackson Academy in an exemplary manner.

THANK YOU, PARENTS!

Thank you to Vicki Tirman, Charlette Oswalt, and Catherine Arnold for helping with lunch and transport for the students on Friday.

Thanks also to guard parents Nicki Williams, Chuck Niemeyer, and Kate Bowman for driving students to Holmes on Saturday, and to all the parents who have helped drive all season.

And thank you to ALL the parents who came to support their students at the concert and guard events this week and all season.

JAZZ BAND

With concert season over, the band's efforts will turn to Jazz Band. Here are the scheduled performances:

APRIL 10 - Mr. Jernberg's Retirement Reception - 3:15 - 5:00
