CONCERT BAND

Congratulations to the JA Band for an outstanding performance at the Central Mississippi Concert Band Festival at Ridgeland HS on Thursday. The band received all Superior ratings from the judges at the event. Thanks to the families and friends who came to support the band.

This week is the culmination of the concert band season. The students have worked extremely hard to prepare for this final concert, the last opportunity to hear this repertoire. Please make an effort to come to support your students, and encourage family and friends to do so. 

There are no Sectional rehearsals this week.

TUESDAY, 3/25 - Full Band rehearsal 7:00 - 8:30 in the band hall

FRIDAY, 3/28 - Students dismissed from afternoon classes

11:47 - All students report to the Band Hall. Pizza provided for lunch. Change into concert black.
12:30 - Depart for Prep - PARENT DRIVERS NEEDED - email Mr. Carter if you can help.
2:15 - PERFORMANCE TIME

The festival is in the new auditorium at Prep. Attendees should arrive early, as parking will be limited and school traffic will be an issue.

Students will need to be picked up at Prep after the performance. Please see Mr. or Mrs. Carter before leaving with your child.

After this week, the band will concentrate on Jazz, with upcoming performances at Mr. Jernberg's retirement reception on April 10, at Mediterranean Fish and Grill on May 6, and the Band Banquet on May 8.

WINTER GUARD

Congratulations to the undefeated JA Winter Guard for another successful competition. At the Petal MIA show, the JA Guard won their class and earned the highest score not only of the day, but also of all groups throughout the entire MIA season to date.

The Guard will finish the season on Saturday at the MIA Championships at Holmes CC. Please make an effort to come out to watch their final performance. The girls have worked hard all season and represented JA extremely well.

CONCERT BAND

The two most important weeks of the concert band season are upon us. Please ensure your students are on time for all events.

TUESDAY, 3/18 - Full Band rehearsal in the Band Hall, 7:00 - 8:30 pm

THURSDAY, 3/20 - Central Mississippi Concert Band Festival at Ridgeland HS

7:45 pm - All band members report to the lobby of the Ridgeland HS auditorium. Attire is concert black, and all students should have horns in cases.

8:50 pm - Performance time, families and friends are welcome.

This performance will include the premiere performance of the original composition "LEGACY: The Leadership and Vision of Peter Jernberg", composed by Jason Mathena, in honor of JA President Peter Jernberg, who will be retiring at the end of this school year. It will also be performed at Jackson Prep on March 28.

JAZZ & CONCERT BAND

The Jazz Band will perform at the beginning and end of the Features Pageant in the PAC on Monday, March 3.

ALL Band members should be in the PAC ready to warmup by 6:15 Monday evening. Attire is concert black (no jackets). The event will conclude by about 8:30 pm.

WINTER GUARD

Congratulations to the busy JA Winter Guard for another successful competition. The group traveled to Hoover, AL for the Southeast Color Guard Circuit show on Saturday. They once again won their class, and they had the second highest score of all 34 groups participating. Pictured above are the group captains during retreat.

WINTER GUARD

Congrats to the Winter Guard for another successful weekend. The guard won their class at the Brandon MIA competition on Saturday, earning the highest score of all groups at the event, both overall and in every caption.

The guard will travel to Hoover, AL this weekend to compete at the Southeastern Color Guard Circuit event. 35 units from around the region will be participating.

2/9/14 UDPATE

WINTER GUARD

Congratulations to the members of the JA Winter Guard for their success at the Winter Guard International Nashville Regional Championships this weekend. Out of 29 groups from 9 states at the event, the JA Guard won their classification and earned the 6th highest score overall in prelims.

There were five WGI Regionals around the country this weekend, and the JA Guard earned the highest score of all groups in their classification at all of those regionals.

Thank you to the parents who drove and helped on the Nashville trip -- Nikki Williams, Karen & Clarence Harris, and Jamie Niemeyer. Another big thanks to the mat crew -- Grady Fisher, Kenneth Niemeyer, Cory Tirman, Aaron Dallaire, Michael Payne, and Maggie Hubbard.

The Guard's next event will be the Brandon MIA Show on Saturday, February 15. Here is the schedule for next weekend:

2/2/14 UPDATE

JA WINTER GUARD

Good luck to the Winter Guard as they travel to Nashville this weekend to compete at the Winter Guard International Regional Championship.

Guard members and mat crew will be dismissed at 11:00 on Friday and will return to JA about 5:00 pm on Sunday.

CONCERT BAND

Dr. Leland Kornegay will substitute for Mr. Carter for rehearsals and sectionals on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday this week. Mr. Carter will be participating in a music education forum at Conn-Selmer in Elkhart, IN.
