WINTER GUARD

Congratulations to the busy JA Winter Guard for another successful competition. The group traveled to Hoover, AL for the Southeast Color Guard Circuit show on Saturday. They once again won their class, and they had the second highest score of all 34 groups participating. Pictured above are the group captains during retreat.

Thank you to Brent & Terri Fisher and Nikki Williams for driving the guard on the Hoover trip.

WINTER GUARD

Congrats to the Winter Guard for another successful weekend. The guard won their class at the Brandon MIA competition on Saturday, earning the highest score of all groups at the event, both overall and in every caption.

The guard will travel to Hoover, AL this weekend to compete at the Southeastern Color Guard Circuit event. 35 units from around the region will be participating.

Here is the schedule for the weekend:

9:00 - 11:15 - Rehearse @ JA
11:15 - Mat crew loads van, guard members change
11:45 - Depart for Hoover
4:15 - Arrive Hoover
5:15 - Warmup

6:00 - 7:15 - Dinner TBA
7:15 - Return to Hoover to watch remaining groups
8:10 - Choctaw Central performance
8:40 - Retreat

2/9/14 UDPATE

WINTER GUARD

Congratulations to the members of the JA Winter Guard for their success at the Winter Guard International Nashville Regional Championships this weekend. Out of 29 groups from 9 states at the event, the JA Guard won their classification and earned the 6th highest score overall in prelims.

There were five WGI Regionals around the country this weekend, and the JA Guard earned the highest score of all groups in their classification at all of those regionals.

Thank you to the parents who drove and helped on the Nashville trip -- Nikki Williams, Karen & Clarence Harris, and Jamie Niemeyer. Another big thanks to the mat crew -- Grady Fisher, Kenneth Niemeyer, Cory Tirman, Aaron Dallaire, Michael Payne, and Maggie Hubbard.

The Guard's next event will be the Brandon MIA Show on Saturday, February 15. Here is the schedule for next weekend:

2/2/14 UPDATE

JA WINTER GUARD

Good luck to the Winter Guard as they travel to Nashville this weekend to compete at the Winter Guard International Regional Championship.

Guard members and mat crew will be dismissed at 11:00 on Friday and will return to JA about 5:00 pm on Sunday.

CONCERT BAND

Dr. Leland Kornegay will substitute for Mr. Carter for rehearsals and sectionals on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday this week. Mr. Carter will be participating in a music education forum at Conn-Selmer in Elkhart, IN.

WINTER GUARD

Congrats to the Winter Guard for a great Field Day performance. The Guard won their classification and scored the second highest overall of the 25 units at the event at Pearl HS.

Four parent drivers are needed for the Nashville WGI trip February 7-9. An informational flyer about the trip will be sent home early this week. If you can drive, contact Mrs. Carter via email or text by this Friday, 1/31.

The Pat Metheny Unity Group Tour opens at the JA Performing Arts Center on Monday, February 3. Tickets are available at THIS LINK.

- Next Winter Guard rehearsal Monday, January 20, 1:00 - 7:00

- Jazz Band will perform at the Apple Distinguished School ceremony on January 22, beginning at 9:00 am

CONCERT BAND

Sectional rehearsals will begin in the next few weeks. Each section will have one rehearsal per week.

Please mark your calendars for the two evening rehearsals on March 18 & 25.

The MAIS Concert Band Festival will be March 28 at Jackson Prep.

PAT METHENY at JA

Incomparable Jazz guitarist and 20-time Grammy winner Pat Metheny will be performing at the JA PAC on February 3. The JA Band has performed his music several times over the years. Tickets for the concert can be purchased at THIS LINK.
