BOA INDIANAPOLIS TRIP - November 7-10, 2013

JA Trip Coordinator Sue Guindon was able to make a scouting trip to Indianapolis last week, and we have reserved a hotel that will meet our group's needs very well, the Crowne Plaza Indianapolis Airport. For those parents who may wish to fly instead of riding the bus or driving, the hotel has free shuttle service to and from the airport. The location has an indoor pool and large rooms.

Look for further information in the coming months as details are finalized.

Important information about upcoming events, including concert season, band camp, and the Fall 2013 Indianapolis trip, will be discussed. Please make every effort to attend!

WINTER GUARD

Congratulations to the Guard for their FIRST PLACE finish at Clinton on Saturday, ahead of groups including Clinton, Florence, Northwest Rankin, and Hillcrest.

Guard schedule update: There will NOT be guard rehearsal on March 17. Here are the remaining events on the Winter Guard calendar:

Sunday, March 24 - SABRES 2:00 - 3:30 - Full Guard 3:30 - 5:30

CONCERT BAND

The band members will be performing at the Features Pageant this Tuesday, March 5. They will perform as the guests arrive at the PAC, at a couple points during the program, and again at the end of the event. The program should be complete by about 8:30.

Students need to report to the PAC stage by 6:15 on Tuesday. Attire is concert black (no coats required).

Here is a reminder of the Concert Band schedule after spring break:

2/24/13 UPDATE

WINTER GUARD

Congratulations to the JA Winter Guard, pictured above on Pensacola Beach. They represented JA and the state of Mississippi well at the Winter Guard International Regional Championship this weekend. The guard earned a score of 74.6, which was the fifth highest score yet achieved in their classification this season at  10 WGI Regionals around the country.

Thank you to Band parents Terri and Brent Fisher, Karen and Clarence Harris, Chelsea Sekanic, and Nikki Williams for driving and chaperoning the students over the weekend. Thanks also to Will Tribble, Chase Oswalt, Zack McWilliams, Michael Payne, Grady Fisher, and Aaron Dallaire for helping with equipment.

Next up for the guard is the Clinton HS MIA competition on Saturday, March 2. Here is the schedule:

SATURDAY, 3/2
1:30 - Meet at JA, rehearse
3:45 - Load, change
4:15 - Depart for Clinton
5:15 - Warmup
6:10 - Perform


After Clinton, the Guard will have no scheduled activities over Spring Break, until their next rehearsal on Sunday, 3/17, 2:00 - 5:00.

2/17/13 UPDATE

WINTER GUARD

Congratulations to the JA Winter Guard for their FIRST PLACE finish at the Brandon HS MIA show on Saturday, in competition with groups from Clinton, Brandon, Northwest Rankin, and Warren Central High Schools.

Best of luck to the guard as they travel to Pensacola, FL next weekend for the WGI Regional Championship.

Guard and equipment crew members will be excused from school Friday, and they will be back at JA by 6:00 on Sunday.

JA BAND BOOSTERS

Thank you to the students and parents who helped this week with the Valentines flower sale. The event was a success and will be held again next year.

Thank you also to those who have volunteered to help work the concession stand at the MAIS Basketball tournament on Friday. In spite of the absence of many of our families who will be traveling to Pensacola, there are only two open slots remaining, from 8:00 to 10:00 pm.
