10/26/14 UPDATE - BOA WEEK!

BAND BLOG BULLETS

- Thanks to all the parents who made the MAIS Marching Festival on Saturday an overwhelming success. The weather was perfect, and at the end of the day, the visiting band directors, students, and spectators all left proud and happy. The band followed their festival performance with a very productive rehearsal with the judges.

- Congratulations to the JA Band for continuing its 25 year run of all superior ratings at the MAIS festival. On to BOA San Antonio, competing against 65 bands in a two-day blowout in the Alamodome! See the very important schedule below.

- Bottled water, Gatorade, and snack donations are needed for the San Antonio trip. Drop them off in the Band Hall by Wednesday night.

A detailed trip itinerary will be distributed at the parent meeting on Tuesday.

MAIS MARCHING BAND FESTIVAL

Volunteers are still needed for the festival, which will be at JA's Raider Field on Saturday afternoon.

BAND GUIDES - This is a fun and easy but very important role. Each visiting band will have one person to meet them at checkin, and stay with them through warmup and performance.  This makes visitors to our campus feel welcomed, and it helps to keep the show on schedule.

PARKING - One or two volunteers are needed to help direct buses and equipment trucks.

Please come to the parent meeting on Thursday, 10/23, at 6:30 pm in the Band Hall, for more information about these and other roles. You can also email Jamie Niemeyer at JNiemeyer@sfbcic.com.

BOA SAN ANTONIO TRIP

There will be a parent meeting to distribute trip information on Tuesday, 10/28, at 7:00 in the band hall (during evening rehearsal).

Each student will need to bring enough meal money for lunches and dinners on the trip, usually fast food. Breakfast is complimentary each morning at the hotel.

There are also a couple of optional activities for which students may want to bring money.

At Six Flags Fiesta Texas on Friday night, admission tickets will be provided to each student. These tickets provide admission to the park, and all rides and shows. If a student would like an extra dose of "thrill", there are wristbands available for purchase that allow admittance to several premium haunted houses in the park. These wristbands are $20.

On Saturday morning and early afternoon, if there are enough students who wish to go, we will take the bus to Natural Bridge Caverns. There are caverns, a rope course/zip line, and maze, with pricing determined by choice of activities. Click on the link for more info: Natural Bridge Caverns

If you have any questions about the trip, contact trip planner Sue Guindon at sue.guindon@gmail.com.

10/12/14 UDPATE

BAND BLOG BULLETS

- Congrats to the JA Band for a very busy and very successful weekend. Friday saw the band pumping up the student body at the pep rally, performing their show pregame at Prep, and providing the beat to the JA spirit with the drumline in the stands throughout the game. On Saturday, the band traveled to Pearl HS, where they participated in the Pearl Marching Band Invitational. Their scores were Second Overall, First in Guard and Visual, and Second in Percussion. Well done!

- Ads for the MAIS Program are due by October 15. Contact Sue Guindon at sue.guindon@gmail.com.
