4/29/12 UPDATE


The JA Jazz Band, the Drumline, the Winter Guard, and the Sixth Grade Band all had fine performances for the elementary student body on Friday morning. Thank you to all the students for helping to showcase the band program.

SPRING SCHEDULE UPDATE

There will not be a JA Band Program Spring Concert on May 8. Instead, to lighten the burden on our busy families' schedules, the JA Jazz Band and the Sixth Grade Band will perform at the Band Banquet, May 17 at the Mississippi Museum of Art.

We hope all of our band families are able to attend the concert and banquet, at which all JA Band members, sixth through twelfth grades, will be recognized for their efforts this year.

Banquet tickets are $25 per person, and payment deadline was April 26. If you have not yet paid, please do so this week! If you have any questions, contact banquet coordinator Hope Burford at hburford@jacksonacademy.org.


2012-2013 MARCHING SEASON

Plans are underway for another great marching season for the JA Band. The show is being written, featuring the music of the iconic English rock band the Who.

Here are some important dates to note on your calendars:

MAY 30 - JUNE 1 - JA Color Guard Dance Camp - download flyer HERE
JULY 23-27 & JULY 30 - AUGUST 3 - JA BAND CAMP
OCTOBER 6 - Clinton HS Band Competition
OCTOBER 13 - Pearl HS Band Competition
OCTOBER 27 - MAIS Marching Band Festival
NOVEMBER 1-4 - BOA SAN ANTONIO

Other possible competition and rehearsal dates will be announced when they are available.  The band or drumline will travel to several away football games again this year. The calendar (linked in the menu bar above) will be updated when the list is finalized.

4/22/12 UPDATE

The Sixth Grade Band, Jazz Band, and Winter Guard will perform for Grades 1-6 this Friday, April 27, from 8:30 - 9:00 in the high school gym. Families are welcome to attend.

BUSY FRIDAY FOR THE JA BAND

This past Friday found the JA Band members busy on campus. In the morning, the drumline and guard participated at the Seniors v. Faculty basketball game, played in honor of Scott Branning.

4/9/12 UPDATE

CONCERT BAND


Congratulations to the JA Concert Band for an outstanding performance at the MAIS Concert Band Festival on Thursday.

The band received straight superior ratings from the judges, as well as many positive comments. They were the only Jackson area independent school to receive a superior rating.

Several JA Band members will be participating in the Northwest Rankin Jazz Clinic this weekend, April 12-14.

4/1/12 UPDATE

IMPORTANT SCHEDULE UPDATE --- The time for the Full Band Tuesday night rehearsal this week, April 3, has been changed to 5:30 - 7:00. Percussion members should be there at 5:00 -- IMPORTANT


Members of the JA Band program received much positive attention in Central Mississippi in varied ways this week!



CONCERT BAND

Members of the JA Concert Band are pictured above after their performance at the Central Mississippi Concert Band Festival at Ridgeland High School on Thursday.

The band earned Superior ratings and positive comments from all three judges at the festival, with an overall score of 95.2. Also appearing at the festival were bands from Northwest Rankin, Pearl, Clinton, and several dozen other schools around the state.

Next up for the concert band is this Thursday's MAIS Concert Band Festival in the JA Performing Arts Center.

Eight bands from independent schools around the state will perform, beginning at 10:00. Adjudicators for the event are David Willson, Director of Bands at Ole Miss; Mohamad Schuman, Associate Director of Bands at USM: and Joe D. Moore, Director of Bands at Delta State University.

The JA Band will perform at 2:30 Thursday in the PAC. All family and friends are invited to attend this final performance of this year's entire concert program, which will last 30-40 minutes.

The performance will be professionally recorded, both audio and video. DVD order forms will be available next week.

JA Band members will be assisting as band guides and in other capacities throughout the day on Thursday. Attire for the performance is concert black.

WINTER GUARD


Congratulations to the 2012 Mississippi Indoor Association Class SAA Champions the Jackson Academy Winter Guard!

The Guard completed an undefeated season in their Class, finishing almost 4 points higher than second place Olive Branch.

Eighteen percussion groups and 39 guard units competed at the Championships, which were held for the first time this year at the Mississippi Coliseum. Over 2000 tickets were sold for the event, and the enthusiastic crowd and impressive venue made for an exciting day of performances. A few pics from the weekend:

In other JA Guard news, Jim Lowery, a member of the North Jackson Lions Club, presented scholarships to Annie Campbell and Samantha Hill for his club for their participation in the 2012 MS Lions All-State Band. Jim is also Vice Chairman of the Lions of Mississippi State Band Committee and a former JA Band parent:
